Good-quality data are key to eliminating discrimination based on disability and to accelerating global progress towards inclusive policies and programmes. Since 2016, UNICEF and the Washington Group on Disability Statistics' Child Functioning Module has supported over 60 countries in gathering vital data on children with disabilities. These data informed UNICEF’s landmark 2021 report, Seen, Counted, Included: Using Data to Shed Light on the Well-being of Children with Disabilities, the largest compilation of statistics on children with disabilities to date.

UNICEF has now updated these data, providing new global, regional, and country-level estimates, along with insights into how children with disabilities are faring across key Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) indicators.

In humanitarian settings, good-quality data are especially critical for identifying and responding to the needs of children with disabilities. To address this, UNICEF and the Washington Group on Disability Statistics have adapted the original Child Functioning Module (CFM) and developed the Child Functioning Module – Humanitarian Version (CFM–HV), tailored to the specific needs in humanitarian contexts.

Join us for the release of the updated estimates and the launch of this important data collection tool!
